Individual Therapy for Children and Adolescents

I provide individual talk therapy to children and teens. In therapy, I emphasize evidence-based approaches. Whenever possible, I draw on methods that have been shown in research to be effective for a particular concern, while also individualizing the treatment plan based on the needs and characteristics of the individual client and family. I continually evaluate the treatment effectiveness in order to ensure that I am using the most appropriate treatment and that we are making progress towards the treatment goals. Parent involvement in the child/teen’s sessions will vary based on the client’s age and presenting concerns.

Common presenting concerns include:

  • anxiety

  • depression

  • adjustment to chronic illness/health condition

  • pain management

  • picky eating/ARFID

  • tic disorders

  • difficulties with self-regulation

Some of the evidence-based approaches I use include:

  • Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)

  • Exposure and Response Prevention (E/RP)

  • Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT)

  • Heartrate variability (HRV) biofeedback

  • Clinical hypnosis for pain management and somatic complaints
